Too far to go without a good reason

posted in travel |

I need to get out more. Perhaps not need; should. Over coffee, this morning, we played with the idea of going on a combined drive/walk trip, halfway across the Island. Even went so far as to examine a map of the proposed trail, before letting the idea slip away. It seemed like “too far”, which means we are becoming like our neighbours. Without an important reason, why go all that distance? You would think we kept a horse, and had to figure out how to hide the hay bales in the back of the cariole. I’d say, maybe, tomorrow. But the contractor should be back, and we promised to be around. Getting hard to get away.

Of course, there’s also the weather. I didn’t know that a remake of last spring was even possible. I mean, all that distance across the top of Superior? A weather bulletin quoted possible snowfalls of 60+ cm in the Prairies this weekend. A place I don’t want to be, etc. I’ve seen flurries at the end of September, in the great north, but this is Trans-Canada Highway level. Will we have to keep vacations in the one day away circle of our map?

Spotted a photo of former co-workers, gathered around a lunchtime table. So many familiar faces! I decided to go way back, and found a photo of a classmate from high school (fully a half-century distant). No doubt that I had the right person, despite name evolution. It’s hard to hide the traits of someone who say behind me or across the aisle in my “formative years”.

I’m puzzled by the wordcount here; much lower than the number given in my preferred editor software.
