This afternoon, one of my family posted a picture, showing a seashore covered in white. The only giveaway that this wasn’t taken locally was the palm tree. Imagine that! Sand and snow, not the same! I am intrigued by the whole idea.

The ferry came by today. In both directions. Despite a heavy snowfall, which precluded my actually seeing the transit. So, how did I know this? Was it by the sound? Or the schedule, which is somewhat erratic at this time of year? No, I relied upon modern technology; a small radio receiver that captures signals from the ship’s systems, giving me a mapped trajectory along with speed and depth under the keel. Magical, in a historical light.

The homeward link of our journey was on bare pavement and without incident. No moose. No traffic. No traffic laws broken. All in all, just a long day of remaining seated and intent. Sure, I slept from time to time; I’m the designated passenger, and I have no steering wheel or pedals to entertain me. Not even the radio, as it was controlled by a playlist from an iPhone. At least there was no fog.

My morning meal, at home, follows a routine. The local market bakes cinnamon rolls. Great by themselves, or with fresh coffee. Nothing else required, or wanted. While on the road, I swing to the other extreme. Cornucopia.

Had a chance to test drive the Apple Stylus today. The short version: new gear does not come with artistic talent as a sidebar. I see the implications, but I won’t be adding one to my toy box.

Sitting here, enjoying my sibling’s faster wifi (194 MPS, compared to my home speed of 3.6 MPS). I opted to check the weather at home, and it looks like we had a “bit of freezing rain”; enough to stop the anemometer, cold in its tracks. Sorry, but I couldn’t resist. Maybe the sun will come out, tomorrow.

The last moments of poorly controlled retail before the holidays, and I handled it it in a proper fashion: total avoidance. It would have been easy to join the mall crawl; it was easier to remain the the relative comfort of our temporary quarters, along with the dog. Did I miss out? Doubtful.
