Missed the mall crawl
The last moments of poorly controlled retail before the holidays, and I handled it it in a proper fashion: total avoidance. It would have been easy to join the mall crawl; it was easier to remain the the relative comfort of our temporary quarters, along with the dog. Did I miss out? Doubtful.
The only interruption came with a visit from housekeeping. The dog feigned interest; I simply declined the offer and went back to my studies. OK, watching videos, but I did learn a little along the way.
Anyhow, my focus was toward a family supper after nightfall. A small restaurant that featured smoked meat variations was our destination. My only regret was the detail that their stocks of pea soup were all gone. Also, I wonder why the slaw was missing from my order, only. Another visit will be required, I guess.
After the meal was over, we moved along to a local brewery. The factory portion, actually. There’s a deep family tie with the facility, and I proudly followed son #2 around the maze of fermenters, lagerers, worters and other names that I didn’t retain. All in all, a success, right down to the air filled can I chose as my souvenir of the night.
We didn’t convince son #3 to accept our invitation (to spend the night), but he promised to be ready for stage two of our road trip. Tomorrow, at daylight. For us, a reason to retire to our room and make ourselves into rested routers. Funny how being in the big city no longer elicits an urge to party.
