Took a long time to get things started this morning, but our day was no less effective in consequence. There were rain showers; the only place reporting any wet weather was where I chose to be. However, we knew that breakfast would taste better under a dry roof; it did.

Encouraged by the boat catching exercise yesterday, I decided to try the experience again. Sort of. I did return to the ferry dock, and the boat did come in, but this time it returned the passenger to my care. Interesting variation.

From now on, I’ll finish the phrase “You have to get up pretty early in the morning” by this: “to catch a boat”. We saw the sun rise, in the rear view mirror, as we crossed Souris before tracking south to Wood islands. And we arrived before the anchor weighed (I know, there isn’t an anchor per se. Bear with me).

The song for today is an oldie: Here comes the rain again. There; a musical weather report.
To be fair, we had a beautiful summer forenoon. Sitting around the campground, chatting up the neighbours (who were all leaving, to make way for the next generation of friends you haven’t met yet). Commenting on a cool green trailer with a distinct military style. Turned out that it was U-Haul surplus, which is close enough. Trying to find new friends for dogs, by presenting hands that had got too close to a stranger. In real life, that doesn’t accomplish a thing. The dogs will flinch or fight according to their own priorities which are invisible to the common man.

A change in routine today. After acceding to a request for “a lift”, the back seat of the car was rearranged, to make one more seat available. And then, off to town, with someone new in the conversation equation. Akin to adding spice to a familiar soup; within the hour we were downtown and ready to rumble.

Rather proud of my travel time estimations. Today, we arrived at our destination, a whole minute in advance. That included a bagel break, so I can’t be accused of fudging the stats.

By the time I had boiled my water on the ever so useful campstove, for a second time since sunrise, the dog wanted my attention. Prepare my coffee, but while things cooled down, we should leash our collective spirit and go for a wander. Up the lane to the campground, where every other dog has already gone. You can see where this is actually going.

Thankfully, the postal era is almost over. Because, as it turns out, sending stuff from here to there is difficult. Not for the commercial enterprise, with a full logistical model in place for delivery; for the rest of us, stuck in a campground with an oversized object.

At least with the dog alarm, the odds of seeing and saying goodbye to those who leave the campground early is increased. Yesterday, Louise. Today, Louis and Diane. Tomorrow; too early to tell. I’m sure that the dog and I will be out there, watching the sun rise over the edge of the campground.

Even a tent will rattle and roll, if there’s enough wind blowing. Last night was a noisy one; the surf moved from a rhythmic beat to a steady roar, and instead of sleeping, I listened.
