People in glass houses

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones (virtual or otherwise). In the case of the Canadian parliamentarians, I’m sure they’ll pay no attention to that advice.

Questions about cow tipping

In part because I’d like to live there, the new series from St. John’s, “Republic Of Doyle“, is getting positive ratings in my living room. Can’t speak for the rest of the nation, but I like what’s happening here/there.

1984, in the rear view mirror

Might as well close out the day with a stressful movie. After all, it fits well with today.

We were told that there might be a bit of a storm, and I no longer believe such predictions. Neither do the local authorities, so when the school closures began (while I was on my bus), I took it all in stride. After all, my board waits to see. And, effectively, all the other boards in the area had already called “pause”, while we were still mentioning that the daycare services might be disrupted.

Exhorting myself to think warming thoughts

Let’s play the “What’s it like outside?” game. The one that goes “wet vs dry”,  and “hot vs cold”. I’d throw in “windy vs calm”, but that only matters when you can’t keep a straight face in the draft. Today, the local weather service page made things clear; it was cold enough to make one believe in the mitts and tuque fashion statement.

High winds and high waters

Just a little wind and rain, as seen on the forecast channel. Down by the waterside, a whole different view.

White dreams and wishes

How perfectly Canadian. With less than a week to go to “the holidays”, the question across the nation is “will it be white”. No racial context here; the question has to do with accumulated precipitation, and if you haven’t got any then you are “green”. Again, no environmental bonus points for this one.

White welcome for football

And with an early morning snowfall, we have started another season. After the high winds and cold rain from mid-week, this is better. I guess.

Rising water levels for some

Over the weekend, I tried to get an appointment with my local tire specialist. The usual; swap out summer for winter. There were no openings. This morning, there were footprints on the front lawn from newspaper delivery. Gone now, but the good times are almost over.

Choosing the appropriate library

How much interest does the rest of the world manifest, in knowing what I might be reading on my ebook reader? Seems that there’s a plugin (for the competition’s newest model), but let’s question the utility. After all, if you’re reading this, you’ve got the essential.

We all move slowly

Try to imagine a scene where threescore and plus of us, all of a certain age, dressed in our working uniform (polo shirts and baggy jeans or shorts) are sitting in rows. Before us, 119 PowerPoint slides, a dozen video captures of a server screen and enough acronyms to fill a bowl of alphaghetti.
