Rising water levels for some
Over the weekend, I tried to get an appointment with my local tire specialist. The usual; swap out summer for winter. There were no openings. This morning, there were footprints on the front lawn from newspaper delivery. Gone now, but the good times are almost over.
Meanwhile, down on the Island, people were buying sump pumps. Locally, I’d be hard put to find someone who even knows what that is. Real soil and a high water table vs rock and rivers. Rain isn’t a variable, it’s a given this time of year. Something to think about for the next house, though.
There was a busy contest weekend on the bands, for hams who care. I took a few minutes to tune around, but until I master the mechanics of paddles and keyer I can only be a spectator. No way, no how that I can get that kind of speed and accuracy out of my various hand keys. I may have to (gasp!) spend some time in practice if I want to play with the big boys.
Another evening at the office, caring for the codec. People like videoconferencing, particularly if it means missing several hours of dark road time to meet their committee committals. I guess I’d do the same, if I had the need. Instead, I’ll make sure that the system stays “alive” for the duration.
Do you have any idea how many books there are, out there? I could quit my day job and read 24/7 without ever lowering the level behind the dam. Too much information! At least I don’t have to watch TV AND care for a mobile telephone to boot.
