Blow that horn elsewhere

Sunrise is a special time of day. Reflective. Why the guy with the supersize RV towing a truck felt the need to blow his air horn, at both the base and the crest of the lane, was lost on me. Happy Trails, Camper! We all know about your important departure.

New reason for a sore back

There. I now own four foamy pillows, purchased for less than a fiver each. If a wild creature spirits them away before we rerun to home base, the price point will cushion me. Amazing how we insisted on dragging stuff with us that we could easily have picked up at Wallies, all those other years.

Eating in the open air

Another day, another utility question and answer session. This time, I received a quick course on the needs for a proper waste water installation. Not rocket science, but better left to the experts. Trying this at home could lead to unsatisfactory results…

Berries in a plastic box

Time was, the start of summer was marked in red. Berry red. The colour of fresh strawberries, brought home from the nearest U-Pick. Best undertaken in early morning while the fields were still damp from dew, and the samples (you had to sample, it was part of the package) were wet and cool. By the time you had a couple of baskets beside you, the sun was getting too high for safety, and it was time to find a kitchen with a hot oven. Biscuits. Fresh cream.

Both hot and spicy!

Wow! For supper, I decided to finish off the stir fry from a couple days back. After two days of hibernation, the microwave woke up the flavonoids. Both hot and spicy! There will be some regret, later this evening, but my food wasn’t bland.

Best before, I hope

It will take years, but I’m becoming a more vigilant shopper. At the grocery, at least. Recently, I brought home a lovely bag of bagels. All cheesy, and golden, and ready for the next time I had the urge. Sadly, within a day, the gold turned green. Penicillin, on the cheap. I received some pointed advice from the head buyer, hung my head in shame and vowed to improve my life skills.

Perfect way to end a perfect season; with a trophy

As seen “under the lights”, steady flurries in a steady wind. As seen at field level, the steady progress of a team towards an expected conclusion. This was the Vanier Cup 2013, as seen from my chair.

The non-existent T.O. video has been found

With an hour to go before bedtime, I can declare this Hallowe’en as over and done. The pouring rain kept the monsters from the stoop, and the dog only had to use his deep and dangerous voice once. Imagine; a hot meal without interruption. A good hot meal, involving pork and chicken and potatoes with leeks. Better than bagged candy, any time (although my eyes are peeled in case we did buy treats0.

Soggy spars

Lately, I’ve tuned into the catchphrase “first world problem”. I live in that world, and sometimes the problem is real. No help to those who live in other jurisdictions, but I want to rant. About the lack of choice in menu.

Streamlining the pastry list

As the dog does wind sprints in the living room, complete with over-table leaps and tight corner turns, I realize that he is more athletic than me. More than I’ve ever been, including one summer in high school, Guess that goes under the heading “the nature of the beast”.
