Cool, dimly lit; everything it should be

Couldn’t figure out why the code wouldn’t flow… for some reason, my efforts to connect a trio of Morse keys was getting me nowhere. Tested the connections, and all seemed sound, except that there was no sound. Downloaded and read the relevant pages in the manual. Tweaked menu settings. Changed cables. And then, after lifting one key and setting it down again, everything clicked. Just one of those mysteries.

Despite the label

On the counter, a small bunch of bananas… no blackening of the peels, so I don’t have to perform the conversion into banana bread just yet. In fact, maybe I’ll get my daily source of potassium and other stuff, just by eating one. They were bound with a blue and white plastic garland, with the intriguing text “Organic Biologique”. And so, I’ve eaten one, peeled of course, and it tasted just like a “banana”. Which leads me to wonder how much extra I paid for the label.

A brace of silly mutts

Meeting someone new can be fun. Especially, it seems, for our dog. I arrived back from a prior engagement, and found new faces in the kitchen.

No more chip truck

The answer was much simpler than usual: Look in the other bag. You see, my supper involved a large ham, and what better for the side than some mashed spuds (peeled and cooked, of course).

Forced into compromise

I’ve lost the touch. Whereas the Easter bunny role suited me well (not the suit, the role) two decades ago, I fell out of training. Today, I was forced into compromise.

Joined the minor storm

Today’s new snow cover brought us a new show from the front window. One of those squirrels that has made camp in the treeline loves the free food, and when things were (unfortunately) covered, he took things in hand. A new series of tunnels, with pop-ups to check out horizon risks; he moved from hole to hole with amazing speed, and each hole marked a seedmine. Until the eventual melt, he’s got control of the larder.

Stuffed and served

Thank you, someone over at YouTube. After watching a video, I added a new technique to my limited repertoire of kitchen tricks. By extension, I also added something new to our family menu list, which doesn’t always elicit cheers.

Fall in different directions

An early start to the day; that’s where you have coffee before you need to. Bright, calm. Perfect conditions to head off to the lumber yard for another set of planter frames. Just on a hunch, check the probs. About the same time as I decoded the “freezing rain” warning, snow started to fall, in different directions including up (it does that, around here). Best wait this one out, I calculated.

Subcontracted meringue

What trumps a lemon meringue pie? Two of them, of course! The order came in, shortly before suppertime, to provide something in the dessert category. Just by chance, my packaged materials hinted at double the fun for not much more effort, and so here you have it. I subcontracted the meringue, given that I don’t have my operator’s permit for the new KitchenAid mixer (yet).File 2016-03-04, 8 06 10 PM

Tiny taters

I am sitting comfortably, a world away from the chatter onscreen. The Oscar red carpet stroll is underway, with the moments of chatter about absolutely nothing by people with much larger clothing allowances than me.
