Joined the minor storm
Today’s new snow cover brought us a new show from the front window. One of those squirrels that has made camp in the treeline loves the free food, and when things were (unfortunately) covered, he took things in hand. A new series of tunnels, with pop-ups to check out horizon risks; he moved from hole to hole with amazing speed, and each hole marked a seedmine. Until the eventual melt, he’s got control of the larder.
I headed out for milk, early. After all, even though the conservative forecasts said that we were out of the line of fire, I suspected something different. And right on time, we joined the rest of the province in a minor storm. Enough to close the post-secondary campuses (grade school break, this week).
I spent the afternoon, as I often do, perusing old newspapers and attaching lonesome names to the database. I dislike, greatly, when a spouse is a stranger to my cause. Scratch the surface and most have associated family.
Finished the store of haddock fillets at lunch. That pushed me into the frozen stores for supper, and we made quick work of a tray of cabbage rolls (which require almost two hours for their reheat). A late meal? No biggie. After all, the evening belongs to those who don’t have to roust in the morning for employment: sorry about that, son #3. You had best accept that “retirement” is far over the horizon for you. The rest of us, including the dog, will do our best to present an example.
