Cleaning as treasure seeking

I’m preparing for the eventual cleaning of our basement, with the help of cable TV. I’ve been watching programs that deal with the riches that lie undiscovered. Antiques Roadshow and Canadian Pickers.  To a lesser degree, Storage Wars. Forget that stuff about Hoarders, though. That’s for the unsung few that are never required to clean house.

Availability of maps for the old school

As we’re forced to move from 32-bit to 64-bit versions of our favourite software, I lift my virtual hat to the gang at Google. Today, they released an 8-bit version of Google Maps, for the cohort of “old technology”. Here’s the view of the Maritimes.

Talent and nostalgia

An afternoon of entertainment, lightly flavoured from the nostalgia jar, but involving talent that has proven that age makes no difference.

Looking beyond the blemishes on a pretty face

I’ve always had a penchant for that most argumentative of jobs. The devil’s advocate. Way more fun than simply playing lawyer. And in keeping with that, I have no problem with lending an ear when someone else gets into the game. Today, for example, when Rex Murphy headed up to “Fort Mac” and gave the town a chance to present its case.

Steam punk for the modern man

Consider this as a resolution. I’m going to opt for higher thread counts in my sheets. Didn’t realize what a difference a little comfort makes in life. That, and a hot tub are high on my list of things to “get”, after our weekend away. For the record, we finished with a wonderful breakfast before leaving the Manoir du Lac William today.

And then we jumped the intersection

Just thinking about a neat idea for a videogame, where you drive your car really fast through a downtown area, one with some great hills. No real goal in mind, a driving game. Except that the idea is a classic, from a movie.

Undue complications as a plotline

My life is an open book. Dull, like a bad math text, but nevertheless. No need for government oversight, in case Vic is one of my readers. And I’m grateful. Just finished watching a movie, and if my life was like that…

The blurry line between personal and public

If the line between public and private ever becomes clear, could someone take a few minutes and notify the entertainment industry? I’m not given to outrage, but I could learn.

Sketched with sunshine

A great short story should be timeless. After all, people are people. What do you do, though, when your story involves a place? A fictitious place. Based on a real place. Television will give it a go.

In favour of an idiot abroad

I am a socialized being. Quite apart from being social, or even sociable. My mother and father took the time to teach me, early on, that saying what I thought about a particular situation might be my right. But, with right comes great responsibility. Ergo (that’s Latin, not a name for a salad ingredient), I should abstain from saying everything that crosses the threshold of my brain. In particular, the world at large doesn’t need to know what I think about a particular situation, in every situation. Do you see where I’m going with this?
