Talent and nostalgia
An afternoon of entertainment, lightly flavoured from the nostalgia jar, but involving talent that has proven that age makes no difference.
First up, a movie directed, produced and starring Clint Eastwood. Actually, he’s hit the hat trick more than once, but today we had Blood Work on offer (love those new cable channels, with only a minimum amount of discomfort from the enhanced billing). Hard to believe that he now has more than four score of years under his belt. Still lean and mean, still believable.
After checking out his list of roles, I realize that I’ve seen most of them (going back to my high school days covers a long period), and that I can’t remember a poor job among them. Yes, the orangutan years were mediocre, but didn’t WC Fields warn about working with children and animals? Seriously, there aren’t many other names that have offered such solid ability.
Next on the list, a new concert by Clannad, Live at Christ Church Cathedral from a concert series recorded in January 2011. New content, in contrast to the multiple Best Of albums released in their name by greedy labels. Live, without the scourge of AutoTune, or dancers, or anything other than musical talent. In church, for heaven’s sake!
I regret that the DVD is not available for general sale, yet. I can’t afford the steep “guilt tax” from the local PBS outlet, so I’m destined to wait until someone gets around to offering it online. I’m not alone. Clannad delivers, musically. If only they’d find a way to come up and play for those of us in Canada.
