The first real payload of winter weather has come and (not) gone. I was home, in time; lifting the plowdrop of wet blobs reminds me why summer is so much cooler, if you will. No forced time off from work, but the bus was overfull and overslow this morning. All the sardines were peaceful, and within months we’ll have it all figured out. Months. I’m counting them.

Sorry I missed it. There were byelections yesterday. Although the results were predictable (this is Canada), the victory speech wasn’t. JET (the son of PET) quoted “Jack” during his political Address To A Haggis. Gasp! For the record, Justin used some memorable quotes from the belated Mr. Layton, thereby ensuring that the members of the Orange tribe will not vote for the Red tribe any time soon. Not that they were going to. But in politics, the offended nature is more important than the actual content.

Coming up on eight years of daily effort (to post something here) and there’s a question which I rarely examine. Who do I write for? I’m basically anonymous, and you (whoever you are) fit the same profile. There’s not much dialogue to offset the monologue. All a mystery, in the end. Which is why I was intrigued to hear an interview with a local journalist.

The long summer stretch is over. What with Jake locked in a container, some of us were getting a little worried. I mean, one of those big boxes looks pretty much like another, and there’s a lot of country beyond the Rock. But all is good. After his release from that Mexican prison…

I usually avoid reality TV, but the promise of a short jaunt around the Rock was enough to force me into exceptional territory. The CTV Amazing Race segment 109 was worth every minute. Here’s your link: Amazing Race. And now back to real life, which is much cooler than reality.

You can always go back… musically. Spent part of the is afternoon listening to the Moody Blues, and it’s as if the last forty years hadn’t happened. Just as good, this time around. There’s actually a new box set out, Timeless Flight, and I can see how it would rate a place on any fan’s shelf. Bit pricey, but what isn’t?

There. I’ve moved my latest acquisitions from the local hard drives onto external media. The game is to match the power supplies and USB variations with the particular drive case. There’s no simple answer (other than investing in a whole new set of externals with one interface, and then donating the various individual drives to someone in greater need. It’s OK, I can hear you. And see you waving.

You have to be “of a certain age’ to get it. This afternoon, I watched the movie Pleasantville, and without revealing too much of the plot line; think of living a in a world devoid of colour.

One minor downside to vacations: the coming home to restart routine.
Just the email overload took several hours to work through. My fault. I attached several online forums to one address, and if the volume isn’t handled each day, it piles up. Try three weeks. All is in order, now.

Right now, I wish I’d drop all my extra cash on an air conditioner. It doesn’t matter if my electricity bill will climb. Or that any machine I can afford won’t really work. I’d almost agree to go to work during vacation. We’re into that time of year when the humidex hits forty and the comfort level hits zero. Even the dog is exploring the basement (that is not normal routine). I wonder if I started storing my shirts in the freezer, taking one out when forced to dress for a discerning public. Is ice cream a health food?
