The balance of underpayment and overpayment

How does that song go? “In the end, it really doesn’t matter”. It doesn’t. The season of American Idol is ending, right now. On another channel. Once again, a rerun of TBBT is more important.

Dance and hand me downs

My preferred dance step is a familiar one: “One step forward, two steps back”. Not progressive (or conservative) by nature, it satisfies without ever carrying too far away from familiar territory. This evening, the reactivation of a wiki, using newer versions of everything, demonstrated exactly that. My image files are MIA, and I have a suspicion that I’m going to be off trying to recreate history at a later moment. I know; nobody else cares.

Inverted bushel baskets

Following a catered luncheon, I feel more appreciated. One year from now, I’ll be even more content.  Seriously, the food was good and the speeches were short. All you can ask for, right?

New leaders and new mottos

The dust is settling. About a minute ago, another Trudeau climbed into the driver’s seat for the Liberal party. This time around (according to others in the room), it won’t matter. I’m willing to wait and see. In the other opposition party, they’ve also held a convention. No new leader to sell , but the membership opted to drop the word “socialism”. Again, I’m willing to wait and see. We’re two (long) years away from a trip to the polls, and that’s when something like this becomes meaningful.

Cheap shot towards real soldiers

Two thumbs down to the newest policy of the Canadian armed forces. A decision to cut the hazardous duty pay of soldiers serving in combat zones (we are involved in several) strikes me as self-serving and petty. Particularly when those involved find out AFTER arrival in harms way. Remember, this involves soldiers, not vacationing tourists, and the bullets and IEDs are still very much in place. No fun and games here. The proper place to debate a “scaling down” in pay should be after the commanding staff has “scaled down” the danger. Not before, not until.

Preferential taxation

Based on the philosophy espoused on Gerry D, writing a secret on a piece of paper and placing it in a shared salad bowl is a very bad idea. There: learned something from the CBC.

When a deficit seems normal

And in other unrelated news, some guy didn’t get saved on American Idol. Tune in next week for more stress. But that’s not what brings us together, now is it? This is Budget Day. Wherein the guy with the new shoes (albeit with ugly logos painted on the heels) promises to spend all the money we give him, and more. That’s the definition of a deficit.

Sauer-sausages and a heli-con

Watching the battle of words (not wits) between a prominent federal politician and a prominent provincial politician. Two views of the same thing, supposedly. One believes that natural resources should be used for the good of the people. The other believes that those same natural resources should be used for the good of some people. What a difference one word makes.

When the whole movie fits the crazy credit category

Thanks to cable TV and low budget weekends, the occasion rises to watch some truly odd cinema. The kids say I don’t have to give in, but sometimes the moment is “too good to miss”. This afternoon, I watched a recent “straight to cable” movie, Battleship.

No clouds in my sky

The school board is heading into March Break. This guy isn’t. Instead, I’m pulling solo duty in the office. And I can handle that. Here’s how it works; I’m the support guy, for a building that will be almost empty. What can go wrong? I’ll come back in a fortnight and bring you up to date.
