When the whole movie fits the crazy credit category

posted in media, politics |

Thanks to cable TV and low budget weekends, the occasion rises to watch some truly odd cinema. The kids say I don’t have to give in, but sometimes the moment is “too good to miss”. This afternoon, I watched a recent “straight to cable” movie, Battleship.

Hard to imagine the lead up to this production, placing Liam Neeson and Rihanna in the same place as the USS Missouri. Yes, the one that is moored in Pearl Harbour, and that saw service during WW2. For this movie, the old girl was pressed back into service (thanks to the magic of CGI) and served to destroy an alien invasion force. I told you, too odd to miss. The storyline never made sense, but it didn’t have to; we had a top musical draw running the turrets on a battleship.  I did learn that the Navy (the capitalized one) has camouflage clothing for use at sea.

Compare that with anything else I could have done this afternoon.

The local newspapers and media are having a field day with the prevarications of the OQLF. That’s the government branch that deals with deviation from the official line on what language is legal in provincial commerce and education. I didn’t know, before today, that an offense like having ON/OFF on a machine was an offense. Soon to be fixed, I’m sure.

Still procrastinating on the great laptop breakdown. The fan must be replaced, and I have received the part. I’m just not ready to spend an afternoon chasing really tiny screws around the kitchen. If you don’t understand, more the pity.
