Cheap shot towards real soldiers
Two thumbs down to the newest policy of the Canadian armed forces. A decision to cut the hazardous duty pay of soldiers serving in combat zones (we are involved in several) strikes me as self-serving and petty. Particularly when those involved find out AFTER arrival in harms way. Remember, this involves soldiers, not vacationing tourists, and the bullets and IEDs are still very much in place. No fun and games here. The proper place to debate a “scaling down” in pay should be after the commanding staff has “scaled down” the danger. Not before, not until.
In a moment of hubris, I submitted my final course assignment this afternoon. A parody, instead of a scientific description. And my hope is that those involved in the evaluation process will accept that humour is a valuable teaching tool. If not, this assignment will be my “not counted in the final mark” effort. We’ll see how it plays out.
A big iPhone day, wherein I set up three new ones for the lucky administrators who will now be closer to things, 24/7. Nice hardware; pity about the soft. I wonder if you can load Android on one, turning it into a fun phone. Seems to me that I read that somewhere.
In one of those “six degrees of separation” moments this morning, I spotted a post from an acquaintance. He’s off to vacation in Cuba, and he has left his small business in the hands of an employee, who happens to be a friend of my nephew. Turns out that my nephew is the godfather of his nephew, and the grandmother (of the godchild) is the person that marched beside me when I received my first university degree. Told you, it’s all the fault of Kevin Bacon.
