My own personal percussion assistant

posted in economy, music |

After checking out the credentials of some of the Dragons (it’s a CBC thing), I realize how deeply my socialist roots are set. I’d have a hard time “hanging out” with those who believe that their role in society is to “steal the cream from the top of the holding tank.” And now that the concept seems to be spreading (like an oil slick), to both national TV networks and south into the hinterlands, it is clear that greed is appealing to some.

To be fair, I do get a kick out of watching the wide eyed innocence of certain entrepreneurs, just before their legs are chewed off above the knees. After all, the credo that anyone can be rich runs deep in our society, even if it isn’t true. The Dragons do a good job of skewering the simple (after all, that’s how they grew their own fortunes in many cases). Time to drop this one, before I turn bitter.

I now own a tiny box that will “play the drums” while I do other things. I remember when someone told me that there “will be electronic drummers, some day”, and I snickered in disbelief. Not any more. At a guess, the transistor tam-tam rules in modern music. Drummers, with their kit, take up too much space on the bus; for the solo guitar guy, there’s no way you’re going to drag the stickman along, when a small (handheld) wonder will fake out the listening crowd. Apparently, the tiny box also provides a whole slew of special effects for that same guitar player…
