I’m reassured

Earlier this week, Gatwick airport was closed. Seems that there was a drone interfering with the “real” planes. Today, we learn that there might not have been any drone, at all. I’m reassured.

Playing a game without understanding the rules

Following the arrest of an important Chinese business person, over the weekend, I’m faced with trying to reconcile two very different things. I grew up watching TV westerns; one of the more important plot points was the work of the bounty hunter: to capture fugitives, strap them across the saddle horn and bring them back across state lines to meet with justice. So be it.

Angst supression

How about that? An afternoon of music from the Alan Parsons Project. Brings back a flood of memories; this was popular music in my circle of friends, in large part because we shared the “common wealth” of our LP purchases. One liked, we all listened. Similar tastes foster trust.

First wetting of cans

I wasn’t in the room, but the wonders of social media came through. Today, the beer met the can (I think). First test run on a brand new production wing at son #2’s world of soaked barley, so to speak. Again, without getting wet and sniffing my wrist, I have to assume that everyone involved is pleased.

Let it go

Finally! A game worth waiting for. You might know that I have a soft spot for Canadian university football, spawned by too many afternoons field-side, with my eye glued to the viewfinder of an SLR. Those times are gone, but when I can catch a game on TV, all is good.

Neothis or neothat

Sometimes, a visit to the doctor is simply a confirmation. That you are alive, and relatively well, if nothing else. Today, I went in to the local clinic, set forth my case and received the verdict in short order. Yes, I am alive. Carry on, and if it gets worse, come back for another visit.

Off to the roadside

Today, I tied up some loose ends in my Cape Breton families. Lot of musical cousins over there. Not my cousins; their own, but you get the idea. Follow the threads and see where you end up. From my perspective, the connections to the Island are clear; sail to the shore you can see, first of all.

Heavy weather

There’s a meal we haven’t had in a long time: pulled pork sandwiches. Much better than I remembered.

About that high pitched whine

This was a good day for the main car. For our finances, not so much, but being in a zone without any public transit, certain costs are implicit. Anyhow, as of this morning, the car is inspected, licenses (OK renewed), has better brakes and shiny new spark plugs. In a world of fuel injection, I’d almost forgotten about those little instances of fire, furiously doing their thing, four times per engine cycle. And in a world of “small motor means higher RPMs”, that’s a lot.

A victim of poor design

Only when you have gone without a head cold for a suitable period, can you fully appreciate what a scourge it is. Our respiratory system works well, almost always; bring in the right virus and you learn what “overdrive” really means. I’m several days along the path to recovery, but this is a really rocky path.
