I’m reassured

posted in economy, politics |

Earlier this week, Gatwick airport was closed. Seems that there was a drone interfering with the “real” planes. Today, we learn that there might not have been any drone, at all. I’m reassured.

Earlier this weekend, the US Secretary of the Treasury telephoned the CEOs of the six largest banks, from his vacation home in Mexico; just checking to see that the various institutions had “sufficient liquidity “ (big words for cash in the vaults) in case the public responded poorly to  the state of finances come Monday.  You know, like a “run on the bank”, to use jargon from the Dirty Thirties. I’m reassured.

Someone released a Top Ten of things that Russia might do in realpolitik, come 2019. I’m reassured.

I could go on but I’m actually NOT reassured. Winter travel can get messy. World politics and finances shouldn’t. We know what things should not be done to avoid chaos. We’re doing them, anyways. I’d like to grow old in peaceful times. Just sayin’.

A rather hot video, from central NS today. Some school buses, parked side by each, caught fire. With the students on hiatus for a few days, this won’t cause additional chaos come Monday, but I figured that a school bus (from what I remember, mainly a tin can on wheels) shouldn’t burn like a cheap sparkler. I hope that those in charge of fleets, everywhere, will take the time to envision solutions should this be a “here we go again” situation. There’s more here than a few flashing lights by the side of the road.
