The Vanier Cup is coming back for the winter

To celebrate the occasion, a second panful of chicken wings. After all, with the Rouge et Or winning the Vanier Cup (only minutes ago), this part of the planet has stopped holding their collective breath. The defeat (bitter defeat) one year ago will now be just a line note in university football history.

They have to win the bowls to get to the cup

Went lightbulb shopping today. So many different form factors, and none lasting longer than a matter of months. Even with intermittent service. The real disappointment was finding that the floodlights were too large to fit in the holder, so my outdoor darkness system is still incomplete. It doesn’t really matter. I don’t go out at night.

The system wants me to be poor and short-lived

Day Two of the retirement prep course is over. I’m prepared, in the sense that I now accept, with a sensibility that is Zen, my fate. I will never be as rich or healthy as I could/should be.

Hockey in reruns

Feeling self-satisfied. Much more, there’ll be photos. After all, how else to feel, after a complete wash, fold, hang, shelf, store of the existing wardrobe, along with a run to the dumpster with stuff that no longer fits my exacting standards. Go ahead, snicker. There is rare and then there is REALLY RARE.

First fall of the winter

This day started much too early. Half way through the night, the dog wanted company, to facilitate repeated visits outside. I tried to help, then I tried to ignore, but the ante continued to rise. Grass is not a good source of dietary anything for the canine class, and cleaning belly juice three hours before dawn is just yucky. Finally, I gave up on sleep and waited for the arrival of the paper guy. Oh, and I started the pool reversal process, under cover of darkness. The neighbour in his truck seemed bemused.

I recognized that hill

Sitting, watching something involving Rick Mercer, in a hamster ball, at Horseshoe Valley. And  the memories come flooding back.

A cracked screen to test my ingenuity

This was not a day filled with accomplishment. After rehanging a window blind, and quickly receiving a review (“It’s not centred over the window”), I decided to go for another plan; still B for blinds. Off to the hardware store for additional hardware. And then I ran out of steam. Nothing else happened. Yes, I was distracted by a really good university football game, and that season will be over soon, so I’ve already absolved myself. In passing, a great Rouge et Or win. Five in a row. They have enough accomplishment for everybody.

When making less money means more

There are times when you have to strike. A drum, for instance. Or a snake (before it strikes you). A few other examples are available. But this time around, as hockey gets set to go on strike (technically, a lockout; don’t quibble), perhaps a truce would be a better choice.

So rich, they don’t need (more) money

I think I should go to bed early. Actually, that’s been the feeling since dawn, but there was a work day in between. I’m laying the blame on my sore eye (the distracting one). And the heat, but that too shall pass.

Hardly threatened by a hockey lockout

I’ve decided to model my effort level after the dog. Sleep until called, bark at strangers and watch for (forgotten) food. The day takes just as long to go by, but my cardio rate is down and I’m happy. Seriously though. Vacation is just about over, and I’d hate to look tired when the cubicle inspectors stop by, next week. I work in a public building, so I’m going to have to use a variation on normal dog habits. Barking at strangers is not good.
