If only there was a cure. Forget the major plagues of the world; the medical people have their eye on those. I’m more worried about something that sits closer to home. My sister, for example. And here, I’m peering over my glasses at the evidence that she has the gullibility gene.

The frost warnings continue, which explains why “my field” hasn’t been planted yet. Somehow, the clock regulating the change of seasons has deregulated (just like the cuckoo clock in the dining room that seems to announce the hour, just not when it should). I guess the farmers have to depend on summer going overtime.

The view from the living room window changes constantly. The trees move. The bird feeders attract local colour. Sometimes, we even watch cage races.

My technical education was tied to the local barber shop. Where else would I get to sit beside a stack of Popular Mechanics magazines, waiting my turn in the big chair? Given that my father was a firm believer in crew cuts, the visits were frequent; I rarely missed an issue during that crucial period of my youth when my mind was an empty barrel, waiting for knowledge.

This morning, I was very aware of the ferry horn. Heard, but not seen, due to the zero visibility in heavy snow squalls. Spring, as we know it in Canada. Not to worry; they’ve got radar, and I think they know the way to the nearest port. Likewise, when the postal lady stopped by with a parcel, she obviously knew where she was going, even if the road/lane junction was masked.

When the news story leaves me with more questions than answers, I’m left feeling [something, something, something]. Go ahead, CBC, test me. But please either take the time to score my efforts, or else point me to additional information.

This morning, I felt a twinge of guilt. Despite his appearances on Star Trek, The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory, I didn’t expect him to live indefinitely. On my list of books to read, some day, A Brief History Of Time. I will get around to it, eventually.

As the neighbour wobbles toward a new round of “protectionist policies”, I’m unsure of the motive. Or the outcome. I understand the basic premise, where if someone is selling you stuff cheaply, you throw in a penalty clause (called a tariff). Here’s the catch; unless you also fix your local prices, the business world just ups everything (inside and outside your wall) to profit from your policy. In the end, the consumer loses.
