A visit to a NEW school

posted in education, technology, Wx |

This morning, I was very aware of  the ferry horn. Heard, but not seen, due to the zero visibility in heavy snow squalls. Spring, as we know it in Canada. Not to worry; they’ve got radar, and I think they know the way to the nearest port.  Likewise, when the postal lady stopped by with a parcel, she obviously knew where she was going, even if the road/lane junction was masked.

I received my new DAC, and I’m setting up a Raspberry Pi to do even better sound tricks than before. That’s the promise, at least. I did have to stop into Radio Shack and purchase a RCA cable; oddly, only the owner and I even knew what that was. Progress, I guess. There was a time when every second wire in a given cable nest was one of those.

Today, I went back to school. The NEW school, with the fresh-everything odour not gone yet. The children arrived this week, and the signs to assist people in labyrinth navigation were everywhere. A year from now, it will all seem ordinary, but today (among the small selection of staff still on hand at 16h45), the pride was palpable. This is where miracles will occur, in pedagogical terms. And if the playground is still muddy, no matter. Within weeks, there’ll be sod, and playground gear and a real sense that the school is open for business. Why, the principal is already announcing that they’re close to capacity.  Not sure if that’s the news the government wants to hear, one week in.

Supper was served in a restaurant.
