Preparing for every eventuality

I believe that the necessary tools should be available where needed. The where is the key word in that sentence.

Look! The complete alphabet, once again

Among the things I (shoulrefuse streddd have) realized, years ago, is that the best place for doing repairs to my computer is not on a workbench. Particularly in an office, where the phone distracts and the supervisor does whatever he or she was actually supposed to do. No, the absolute best place to fix my computer is on the dining room table, after supper. I mean, a noisy stomach also distracts.

It looked like snow

I now take my warnings from social media. The most recent trigger? A photo by an RV owner, showing what happens when your container of DEF overflows; my immediate thought was “That could happen to me”, and I went straight out to remove the potential chemical volcano from where it has sat, all year long. One of those things that had never crossed my mind, but after seeing a single photo I was convinced to act.

Boosted a bike battery

Getting  the outdoor temperature up into summertime range is such a nice thing to have happen. From my walk to the garage to retrieve a car, to the time spent reinstalling the roof racks, to the checking nooks and crannies for things that really should stay here with us… all good. All was done in short sleeves. I could have opted for cargo shorts, if I had so wanted. Yes, I realize that we aren’t going to avoid cold weather forever (I have no plans to spend the next few months in a tropical location). This is just a final hurrah to the great weather of the summer.

Attach A to B

Forty-five years ago, this week, the song “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen made its radio debut. That’s all. Now back to feeling really old.

Not exactly a flat

Heading through autumn, the weather can turn nasty. Today, we had the sort of day where you wouldn’t put the dog outside. I tried. He showed his obstinate side. I stayed firm, and towards evening when the wind died down, he agreed with me. Just a matter of my showing patience.

Directed task completion

Blame it on the education system. I work best when I can visualize a deadline, and realize that the penalty for being late is more onerous than the work involved. I’ll go “out on a limb” here, and postulate that this is an intentional control setting for society. We hang the carrot in front of the donkey, knowing full well that if he actually has to eat that tasteless vegetable, he might not be so willing to accept the task at hand.

Cue the Baby Shark song

For a few minutes, this morning, it seemed real. Or at least, possible. The shark surveillance system had noted that one of the larger (named) fish had left open waters and was swimming upriver to a small town in the interior of the province. Coming from a satellite tracking signal – of course it was real.

Hard copies are over-rated

Over the years, I had become complacent. After all, I didn’t need to print, often. And we had (have) more printers than would be considered as practical. When your use is occasional, and fractioned, you don’t realize that, perhaps, things are not working all that well.

Buoy now ashore

A couple of days ago, my marine app showed an unfamiliar vessel, rounding the point. Now, the tourist season is done, so I waited for my answer. Within a day, the harbour master noted that the buoys were gone from our sector. These are large affairs; think of a small truck, half-in and half-out of the sea, on the vertical axis. And the coast guard doesn’t leave them in place year round, due to the heavy ice which can form. So, every fall, the big iron goes back to shore. Repaint time. Given that most of you won’t even know what I’m referring to, here’s a photo.
