Directed task completion
Blame it on the education system. I work best when I can visualize a deadline, and realize that the penalty for being late is more onerous than the work involved. I’ll go “out on a limb” here, and postulate that this is an intentional control setting for society. We hang the carrot in front of the donkey, knowing full well that if he actually has to eat that tasteless vegetable, he might not be so willing to accept the task at hand.
So, where was I? Oh, right. Trying to explain that I actually did something necessary today, with only the perceived fear of frost to push me forward. I’m referring to the RV, and the required sequence of this followed by that which prepares thing for colder times. The ones that are coming, etc.
I hadn’t planned on that job, today (actually, I hadn’t planned on anything), but when the temperature rose into double digits, coupled with sunshine and a lack of wind… I got on task. Now, I have a set of notes to keep my sequence in order, so when I got out there, and undid the first drain, everything followed. A lot of water. Some gravel under my buttocks. Finding a better way to transfer four jugs of “pink stuff” into the water tanks (hint; the handpump is a terrible way). And within a couple of hours, I put away my tools, started the RV engine for good luck, and went in to initial the calendar. Another job, done.
I still have the deck furniture and the BBQ to store away, but there is plenty of time. Global warming has some benefits, of course.
And because we’re celebrating Thanksgiving (not really), a new mark: the family tree database moved on past the 97K mark.
