Needing a heroine to end this Greek tragedy

posted in media |

This afternoon, while showing some YouTube skits to my closest friend, I had to come to grips with something; we don’t always watch the same shows. Now, why this was apparent is that the skits were from SNL (you Google it), and showcased some of the efforts of Gal (you Google her). In particular, some of the material from Wonder Woman.

I didn’t watch the “other” TV show when I was in (high school? university?), so when Gal did her work, I was ready to pay attention. Fast forward, after several movies, as we wait for the sequel that should have been on the marquee last summer. That’s the thing. Movies aren’t being released. The whole movie industry is up against something new, for the first time in over a century. No place to go. No place to show. The  next few months show (excuse the mixed reference) no sign of revival. Sure, we have Netflix, but the blockbusters aren’t available to those of us in quarantine. Imagine the stress for all involved. Will we have a ceremony for the Oscars, if the projectors are off? And what about the huge machine (aka Hollywood) that relies on revenues for the next round of creativity. Will this be the sand that breaks the gears?

Getting back to Gal. What would she do? Could her efforts be the saving grace for the cinematic universe? According to the critics, no, but I believe in her. She has a lariat, and her bracelets deflect bullets. Isn’t that what we all really need, in the current period of pandemy? A Greek heroine?
