(But it’s) Only twice a year

posted in environment |

Twice a year, I transfer the deck furniture. Up and/or down the hill. And each time, I remind myself that we chose a product that was durable. Environmentally friendly. Not apt to go off wandering in a gale.

Actually, I complain. The stuff is solid, and that means heavy. With the help of the company’s catalog, I confirmed that a table, four chairs, a lounger and a footstool have a combined mass of 166kg (365lb). More than a similar set in spruce. And so far, the prevailing winds have not budged anything. Except for the BBQ, but it’s made differently, and it has casters. In other words, we’ll probably have the stuff around until the end of our lives. Good thing we went with a neutral colour scheme.

As I mentioned, there is a question of “elevation change” involved in my storage dilemma. What goes nicely down the slope requires determination to return uphill. In the spring. I have the winter months to plan for the seasonal workout.

Here’s the thing; I rarely ever sit outside. Not to “catch a few rays”. Not to eat (wind and bugs explain why). I simply assure that the winter months are handled as out of sight/out of mind. Snow removal requirement. I do not want to dig out a chair because the deck was overloaded in a blizzard, and my nerves are on edge about the potential for collapse due to load. If I were more inventive, I’d develop a mechanical system that would allow me to crank things up and down, with an advantage. Instead, I simply complain.
