Not sold here, just yet

Advertising is supposed to convince the potential buyer that what is for sale is also needed. Or something simple, along those lines. Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of ads for a product that I could use… specifically, an overpriced shingle-sized piece of cedar, to be used to scrape my BBQ. I’m willing to buy one, despite the ridiculous price point, if I can find one for sale. Oh, I know, online, etc. I want to see the thing, if only once, before I store my bristling brush and go for the smoky sensation of a  smoldering slab.

Finding the lamp and other things

Last evening, I considered exploring what could return a broken air fryer to a more useful status. I didn’t, though. This morning, we returned to the retailer. Without hesitation, the broken was exchanged for a brand new unit. The warranty continues. I salute the Stokes corporation, for their ability to keep the customer happy.

New freezers

Yesterday, one of the major plugins for this site upgraded, and promptly broke everything. Along the way, I’ve learned to change out such a flat tire, which I did. Ran for the next few hours without whatever the plugin was supposed to be doing. Today, an upgraded version of the upgrade (??). Reinstalled, activated, ignored the other features that now want money to continue. Things seem functional, but I’m now in “watchful mode”.

Hardware stores equal temptations

Half-past eight, in the evening. Local time. Around me, things are darker than usual, because I’m a participant in the worldwide Earth Hour. Can’t tell if my neighbours are involved; distance and heavy tree cover change the mood. I did notice an invitation on the electronic sign, as we drove through town earlier.

Will greed save (the rest of us)?

And again, no sign of the forecasted storm. Perhaps this spring thing is really going to happen. Not to complain; this has been an “easy winter”. As the temperatures rise, the rodents return, and I had an additional taxi run this morning. Left the beastie cooling its heels until my curling broadcast ended.

Upsell

Got through that storm without pain. Unlike elsewhere; the “message bell” came up, after midnight, when son #1 described his local situation as apocalyptic! Perhaps an exaggeration, but Quebec and Ontario did learn that winter “ain’t over ’til it’s over”.

Aggressive pricing returns

One of the largest fast food chains is tired of the eroding customer base. Today, the announcement vaunted a return to chicken nuggets without preservatives and more aggressive pricing. Great! I didn’t want to keep my take-out indefinitely. And I am eagerly awaiting the $0.28 hamburgers.

Dead broke

I pay taxes (unlike someone rich and famous). Not huge amounts, but sufficient that I have to file paperwork each year to get the excess returned to me (to be spent as quickly as possible). Anyhow, for years now I’ve purchased software on a convenient CD and made sure to meet my deadlines.

A play-for-pay review

I’m a consumer. Like pretty much everyone I know. I purchase things, not always necessary, within the limits of my own finances. And, given the current models of commerce, I shop online. Which brings me to the next point. I also need advice, to allow me to get the maximum value for my limited dollars, and so I tend to read the reviews left by my peers.

The power of local retail

Getting into this “local retail” thing. The prices are fair, the service is exceptional, and it’s an insurance policy; when you need something, it shouldn’t always require three hours in the car. This is a small place. Yes, I have a new battery, and all is good.
