The power of local retail

posted in economy |

Getting into this “local retail” thing. The prices are fair, the service is exceptional, and it’s an insurance policy; when you need something, it shouldn’t always require three hours in the car. This is a small place. Yes, I have a new battery, and all is good.

We actually did go to the city, but because of other reasons. Turns out that the bulk food store has the lock on candy! Oh, and milled grains and spices, but mainly treats. I’m now stocked up with dried apricots, for the first time in a very long time. And some sort of “put this in boiling water and get a cup of cider” extraction. Fun, for the next little while.

In the city, the weather was chilly; I spent a lot of the afternoon checking out just what the dog goes through when he gets left “on duty” for extended periods. Thankfully, my seat comes with a heat button, but he has lots of fur. I’m calling this one even.  He doesn’t complain about my radio station choices, in passing.

I decided to pick up some extra ink for the new printer. Wow! Colour is expensive! Not even a complete set of cartridges, and I’m out almost $100. Have to make sure that I print for use, not discard. Oh, and the two months worth of recycled everything are now at the roadside, early enough that I’m assured of pickup tomorrow morning. I hadn’t intended to go sixty days, but life happens. Now, the counter has been reset.
