Watching some valiant hill climbing

We were on time for our breakfast break, despite the marathon passing by the front door. Until you look at the area from the viewpoint of those about to go up yet another long hill, the idea that this area is free of summits seems reasonable. I wish I could ignore gravity.

Tiny territorial warriors

Tiny, territorial warriors; all hyped up on sugary water and ready to defend “their” place at the bar. Outside, the sound reminded me of whipper-snipper wars. Nothing so mechanical – the hummingbirds were at it, again. This time, one went down for the long count.

Odd sense of revenge

Wouldn’t it be lovely, if we could simply react to a recent remark as “just a joke”; if we could roll our eyes and carry on? Learning that the trade dispute with the US is due, in part, to a perceived slight from more that two hundred years ago is serious. You remember, when the Canadians came south and burned down the White House. If you don’t, take the time to learn that their head official “still does…”

Putting the crazy train on the main line

Another day winding down. For me, the chance to go to town for a minimum load of groceries, with the dog as co-pilot, was about as busy as it got. The dog cares about such travel.

Rejoining the circle

Draw up another table; we’re here and we’re growing in number. The Saturday breakfast club is now called to order. Rejoining the circle are those that spend the winter “away”; and like other seasonal birds, they’re brought back to the fine breakfasts. Coffee, bacon…

Time to be productive

Good neighbours “keep an eye on things”. So do nosy neighbours. By logical extension, good and nosy are much the same thing, I guess. I have a hard time sorting it out, while falling into the same mudhole. There’s this field, just next door. Fascinating field for someone that spent most of his productive years in the city (where fields are there only to keep the soccer crazies contained).

He used to live just across the way

Like two ships passing in the night. Literally. From my kitchen window, two huge passenger vessels, heading in diametrically opposite courses, under a full moon. We’re back into the period when a large number of tourists can see me waving, if they stop partying long enough.

Superb pouch technique

The view from the living room window changes constantly. The trees move. The bird feeders attract local colour. Sometimes, we even watch cage races.

A better chair

There now. Something else to cross off my list. This afternoon, I went to a book launching, in which I was involved… from A to Z, if you will. I am pleased that others found our production to be “like a book”, although when you hit close to 400 pages and bind it up with a cover and spine, there’s not much else it can resemble.

Milk on hand and deeper wells

I’ve found a new world of mysteries: analog synthesizers. I’ve watched a lot of videos, read a lot of technical comparisons, tried to imagine what on earth the folks on Gearslutz are going on about. No closer to understanding. Maybe I really need a new interest; perhaps brewing teas. Can’t be any more esoteric (can it?).
