Upon the loss of my only superpower

This morning started with a quick session of someone dropping expensive chemistry onto my “new and improved” eyeball, before we abandoned the dog to his place in the car and took a taxi several blocks to the clinic. I’ve had more commercial rides in two days than during the previous two decades! Yes, we could have taken our own car, but parking is hit or miss, sometimes, and we were short of time. As in no minutes to spare.

A visit to the repair shop

If the question came up about why this post was delayed, I can explain. In tech speak, one of our video feeds malfunctioned, and the whole system had to be brought in for repairs. No real choice. I had the time available, and so we went off to the depot, over across.

While I still spy with my little eye

Before going an further, I want to give a special shout out to my pilot. I’ve taken a voluntary demotion, from co-pilot to preferred passenger, due to the variable visibility. With today’s tail winds, we made the flight from a small field near WEP, arriving in the area of YHZ on schedule. Pay no attention to my current QTH; the hangar isn’t located in the same location… at all.

New dance moves for the dexterous

There are bargains out there. Literally. Someone else in the house went to the local ski trails this afternoon, with great intentions of snowshoeing. Not much snow. In fact, a season member ship was available at 90% off, which means that if it snows, “we’re in the money” and if not “we’re in spring”. What I call a win/win situation. I wasn’t involved, given that the dog refuses to wear anything on his feet that isn’t “Big Dog” approved’.

Skate? Not much

After seeing some recent photos from where I used to live, I appreciate my current situation. Over there, the fences are disappearing under the snow (with more on the way). Here,  I can still find sections of lawn that are bare. Mind, the locals are skating on the lake, so things are staying just cold enough. I was asked if I still had skates; I don’t think so. I recall doing the mental gymnastics and figuring that I could buy something to replace that pair of blades I bought back at the age of sixteen. Surely this time around, I can get something that fits a bit better.

Blurred to the point of discomfort

This has not been a great day for vision. I’m waiting for “the call”, and my ability to see things clearly is declining. Not how I want to play out my next while. Right now, the benefits of a new (clear) view outweigh the risks.

A lament by the impatient patients

While sitting in “the waiting room” this afternoon, the familiar lament of the discouraged patient was heard, again and again. When you spend too long, in the queue, you shift from patient to impatient. Not me, of course, but many others.

Angst supression

How about that? An afternoon of music from the Alan Parsons Project. Brings back a flood of memories; this was popular music in my circle of friends, in large part because we shared the “common wealth” of our LP purchases. One liked, we all listened. Similar tastes foster trust.

A repeat of last year’s travels

To me, just some chicken feed. To the animals in my “kingdom”, no greater gift. Specifically, I picked up 18 Kg of sunflower seeds and 7 kK of dog biscuits. All is calm.

New gear, albeit without operators

Not much going on. Seriously. I checked the various news sites, and  other than the usual war, famine, burned the main food store down just before winter stories, nothing inspirational. Wait, hold on… the destruction of the main supermarket in town is newsworthy, particularly when you live a thousand clicks from nowhere.
