Skate? Not much
After seeing some recent photos from where I used to live, I appreciate my current situation. Over there, the fences are disappearing under the snow (with more on the way). Here, I can still find sections of lawn that are bare. Mind, the locals are skating on the lake, so things are staying just cold enough. I was asked if I still had skates; I don’t think so. I recall doing the mental gymnastics and figuring that I could buy something to replace that pair of blades I bought back at the age of sixteen. Surely this time around, I can get something that fits a bit better.
No rush. The lake (lagoon) will still be there, and the ice shouldn’t go out for another few weeks. If it does, I’ll have a year to reconsider.
Something else to (not) look forward to: The provincial system of long-term care facilities for the aged (I AM NOT there yet, thank you kindly) is about to put some heady increases in the rates. The price graphic in the newspaper wasn’t well done, but I get the feeling I’m going to have to save a few more nickels and dimes, if ever I need a bed and bath away from home. So, prices? Come next April, it works out to a touch more than $100 per day as an increase. I have no idea how much of that falls into “subsidized”, but for someone with a basic government pension, they get to spend three weeks out of four in a tent, over by the tree line.
