A repeat of last year’s travels
To me, just some chicken feed. To the animals in my “kingdom”, no greater gift. Specifically, I picked up 18 Kg of sunflower seeds and 7 kK of dog biscuits. All is calm.
Today’s mail brought a letter from the health services across the way. I’ll be repeating last year’s run to the big city just before the mad holiday rush. Staying in the same hotel, finding ways to amuse the same dog. Eating in a small subset of familiar restaurants. The only unknown is if this time around, there will be any sort of surgery involved.
I also had a short visit to the cabinet of my family doctor, long enough to get a referral to a specialist. After years of crouching on the fringe, I’m now a consumer of our health system, at least at the knowledge base level.
Did I mention that I received a large jar of tiny jelly beans? The price was right, and the delivery timeline matched my availability, so I pushed the button. No, I don’t need the beans, but I have so few opportunities to indulge, out here in the country. Not like when the city bus let me shop without a plan.
Back watching foodie videos; today, I learned the basics of latke production. Makes sense, given that I live in a world of potatoes. Now to find a cheese grater; we used to have one. Not part of my cultural baggage, but I can adapt, especially with winter looming. Comfort food, on a budget. Squeeze, fry, do it all again.
