New gear, albeit without operators
Not much going on. Seriously. I checked the various news sites, and other than the usual war, famine, burned the main food store down just before winter stories, nothing inspirational. Wait, hold on… the destruction of the main supermarket in town is newsworthy, particularly when you live a thousand clicks from nowhere.
Not a laughing matter. In Iqaluit, someone set fire to the main food store, drug store and warehouse. Now, winter takes on a whole different tone, given that the roads between here and there are inexistent. Now, not only is delivery difficult (it involves ships and sea ice), but the community is short a warehouse.
On to happier things. Wait. Still searching. Not a great day, I guess. In the local news, one of our MLAs received an official request. Rather than looking for someone who could translate (the message was in the “other official language” which the MLA doesn’t understand, the response was to go into radio silence. Delete the Twitter account! I don’t understand the defense.
The big hospital is getting a new MRI machine! Now the wait time (a matter of hours, the last time I was in need) just dropped, assuming that a qualified operator can be found at the same time. Getting new gear isn’t always the response to the question. I’m very aware that the medical system around me is stressed to the breaking point, and adequate equipment isn’t the issue. Our hospitals (in the smaller communities) have to close, too often, because personnel are not available.
