Right now, I feel like an old (sleepy) dog, trying to learn new tricks. What I really want to do is roll over and snooze, but I’m too proud to give in. You see, sometime last fall, I filled in an online survey form dealing with online learning. Without thinking things through, I committed to “taking an online course”, just because. No fees, no recognition. Learning for the sake of learning.

I’ve got a blind spot in my life. What does the dog do, all day, when the family is elsewhere? If things go according to plan, I may know, as early as the weekend. One of the webcams that isn’t in service is going to serve as a sentinel. I don’t care if the dog feels uncomfortable; if I can be on cameras in public places, he can be on camera in mine. Just a matter of patience.

My world has been invaded by touchy-feely computers. Here an iPod, there a smartphone, on the counter a tablet and on the shelf, a touchscreen laptop. And all come with one design flaw. Their screens keep the marks left by fingerprints, as if each one was special and valuable.

Just heard something worth repeating: “Everyone has a life story to tell”. Keep that in mind, the next time you learn about someone “famous” bumping someone “less so”. Case in point, those that sculpt snow for the Carnaval. Under deadlines imposed by the organizers, as well as those from weather. Yesterday, the competitors were told to lay down their tools and take a break. The site was required for a photo op by Stevie. That taste in your mouth should be one of bile.

Thanks to our frugal ancestors, the phrase “A penny saved is a penny earned” has made good sense for more than four centuries. Alas, inflation and government interference have made this into historical irrelevance. The penny is going, going, gone.
