Seeking a cheap screen cover

posted in technology |

My world has been invaded by touchy-feely computers. Here an iPod, there a smartphone, on the counter a tablet and on the shelf, a touchscreen laptop. And all come with one design flaw. Their screens keep the marks left by fingerprints, as if each one was special and valuable.

My Playbook has a screen protector. A cheap one. And the bubble count is reminiscent of certain chocolate bars. I went so far as to remove the plastic film, rinse it in soapy water and reapply. No improvement. I have taken the time to shop for a replacement, and the price point is scary. Why does a piece of plastic have to cost the third of the value of the tablet?  Insanity. I think the time has come to invent a spray-on product, or else require that manufacturers get with the game and apply proper covering at the factory level.

Today, I “set up” a new desktop machine. The fastest one I’ve ever seen! For the geeks in the audience, an overclocked i7 with 16 Gigabytes of fast memory, large data drives in RAID and a SSD for the operating system makes for one speedy addition to the cabin. Not my cabin, unfortunately, but everyone needs a dream. Watching Windows boot to the desktop in ten seconds is a nice change from the usual “go for coffee” and come back when things are ready.

Maybe son #3 does need a new machine… just so I can set it up.

The dog has a new routine, which involves making sure I get up early enough to appreciate the cover of darkness. Thanks, pooch!
