Awaiting the will of the court, yet again

It’s Wednesday, and the forecasts aren’t in my favour. The snowstorm won’t be big enough, and the local war criminal has found another loophole to avoid deportation. I can blame the weak snowfall prognostication on fate, but the war criminal… I’m at a loss.

A different grade of surplus

My next visit to a war surplus store might not be as interesting as in the “good old days”. Turns out that a certain (undisclosed) number of containers, returned from our bases in Afghanistan, have been loaded with rocks and sand.

Righteous indignation about radicals

It’s been said before, and it will be said again. You’re either with us, or against us. Polarized thinking. And right now, the Harper government has adopted the slogan, in form if not in words. Check the Wikipedia reference, if you have any doubt.

Forget choice

Teach the children, early along, about the essential rule of stuff. Stuff breaks. Stuff breaks at inconvenient times. The replacement stuff will, by some law of commerce, be equipped with the weakest feature of the article. The broken feature.

Let the screens proliferate

I use multiple screens with my computers, and I highly recommend it. More is better.

With my laptop, things are easy. Plug in a VGA monitor, set things up for extended desktop and enjoy the new real estate. Another newer laptop came into the house several months ago; no VGA port. Not funny. The gang over at eBay came through, and with a MiniDisplayport adapter (to VGA) I was able to play the game.

Fluctuating prices

I do not understand retail. I mean, I get the part where the merchant offers stuff, and the client receives that stuff in return for money. Fits in with a chapter from a high school economics course. After that, my ken goes all barbie.

Doing my part for the economy

If the economy is trying to slow down, please don’t lay the blame at my threshold. I’m doing my part to keep the local merchants prosperous.

When two chairs are better than one

Today, instead of just sitting around, I decided to do something about it. Go shopping for new chairs. After all, the solution to a problem starts with the problem, right?

Suffering from calendar deprivation

Funny how the national weather service has different standards for different regions. Take Toronto, which is under an extreme cold warning today. Oddly, it’s a full ten degrees cooler here, but we’re just fine and dandy. We’ve discovered the toque/tuque, and mittens, and the scarf that was in the back of the closet for days like today. Maybe we should send gifts to the citizens of our largest city, before they freeze in the dark of winter.

Too much information for such a small screen

When faced with new (and challenging) technology, try reading the manual. When faced with insomnia, the same advice applies. Early this morning, long before the dawn of a new day, I found myself loading the user manual for our camera onto the Playbook, the better to read in bed without turning on any extra lights.
