Variable calendar

The game plan for today seemed reasonable; a training session with some school administrators. I’d installed the test dataset, and my phone list was clear. Collection of a steno pad for taking notes, and a ride over to the training centre. Check. Check. Check.

No sleepy time in this office

One thing about working in computer support is that times are rarely dull. Think about your home computer, which you treat fairly well. Problems arise from time to time, but there is generally someone you can call.

Give thanks while things are good

Another long holiday weekend has come and gone. The supper was well-received and all present found that the turkey was sufficient. No need to send out for Big Macs to round out the meal.

Trained not to be a pet

Is there anything more comforting than a wet nose stuck in your face as you bounce out of a dream? The enthusiastic wet nose of a dog who has finally discovered where you’ve been hiding for what must seem like a lifetime in the time-confused brain of the canine. I for one welcome my toothy overlord. That’s why we choose to live with a dog, for those moments that others find yucky and that we accept as signs of true love.

Surplus, not used

The whole family went out for a drive today. Pretty rare occasion. Even had to put another seat back in the van, to show how seldom we’re all in the same vehicle these days. We were on the road to a birthday celebration; my father-in-law is up to the four score point. Doesn’t happen that often. We even managed to find some special balloons, after a bit of research.

Smaller birds than in the good old days

Today I was a hunter. In the modern, post artillery sense. This is the start of the Thanksgiving weekend in Canada; we have to celebrate our harvest earlier than the Americans to avoid snowfall. And, if tradition is to be followed, a turkey must be part of the menu.

Please, don’t quote me on that

I’m sure you’ll agree that most of us a) say what we mean b) mean what we say and c) never want to be misquoted. Unless we refer to certain politicians who seem to lack any contact between the brain and the larynx.

But how do they do that?

There’s another sign that autmn has arrived. Toadstools. I took some wonderful photos yesterday, which I’m too lazy to add here (besides, this is supposed to be about literary, not photographic imagery).

Reminders of Dinky times

As our bus rolled through a street construction site this evening, I watched the fellow on his small bulldozer, rolling back and forth to pack down a layer of sand. After all, the better the base is packed, the longer the road will last.
