I’ve got to hand it to Rex Murphy. He can go anywhere and turn any topic into something worth listening to. Tonight, the show originated in Thompson, MB and was an open discussion on movement to other communities to find a job. A topic worth of a sociology course, open to the nation.

The weather today was about as unpleasant as it gets. High winds. Heavy cold rain. A whole list of things to do outside that just didn’t get done. Did I add that the snow fell as well, which left the dog in a curious state. Her environment had to be revisited, in spite of the climate. Door open. Door close. Repeat.

It’s already been six months. A phrase that fits many situations, but here in Quebec it means that the season “not winter” is over. Six months ago, I changed the four season tires onto the van and got ready for all that means around here. New leaves. Grass. A short vacation.

I’m not destined for a career in advertising, it’s clear. I don’t have that quirky sense of distorted reality that the job requires. Usually, I know what I need, and then I find a source, rather than the other way around; not a good target for the advertising mentality.

So, I wonder how hard it is to replace a gramophone spring? I’m not sure I saw the appropriate aisle over at the Canny Tire store, but surely such things are readily available. After all, obsolescence is unfair.

I guess I missed the chapter in my school career where I was supposed to be convinced that it was all for nought. Maybe my avoiding mathematics courses was to blame. The nought thing, I mean. Wasn’t I supposed to have “hit the wall” and declared that the whole academic thing just wasn’t for me?

Familiarity breeds contempt. Just pick up your remote control and cycle through the channels you receive locally. Doesn’t really matter if you have rabbit ears, or a love-hate relationship with the cable guy, or a dish that tunes in distant galaxies; in the end, the results are the same. 57 channels and nothing on. Where is channel One in our time of need?
