One sure mark of a change in seasons

posted in Wx |

It’s already been six months. A phrase that fits many situations, but here in Quebec it means that the season “not winter” is over. Six months ago, I changed the four season tires onto the van and got ready for all that means around here. New leaves. Grass. A short vacation.

Now, the winter tires are back in place. Same excellent service from the guy that knows my name. One of those things done between a run to purchase winter windshield wipers and a dropping son #3 at a school band function. In and out in less than an hour. No hard sell; this is a service station in the truest sense of the term.

I wonder what it would be like to live somewhere with more than two seasons. A place where you vary the tires to something like “summer tires”. A place where chains aren’t ever seen. Where the neighbours don’t have to put the orange snowguy markers in before the leaves have fallen from the trees.

I feel more secure already, because when the snow starts in a matter of days, we will be equipped to stop at corners. Where slip slidin’ away will recall a song instead of a call to the insurance adjusters. But seriously, six months of winter tires; I for one will welcome our global warming overlords. I routinely check four places for daily weather. Currently, PEI is at 4C. Here,, we are at 4C. In central Ontario they’re at 4C. And, in central Florida, they’re at 26C. Draw that isotherm, if you please.

Note to self; find the winter boots. The sneakers are going to be on the shelf for about the next 180 days.
