Some of the skills I picked up while dabbling in the IT world came into use this afternoon. My neighbour has (had) a lovely laptop that lost out in one of those drop tests. Gravity won. Managed to remove the power connector from the motherboard, which is a bit of a death sentence in this world of “repair nothing”.

Anyone that can make a food video about pork and beans look delicious gets a salute. OK, not “pork and beans”, exactly. For anyone that thinks the lobster roll is a quick, delicious snack… don’t try it at home. Getting the meat out of the body armour is more work than I would want to tackle on a regular basis.

The idea of breaking apart and then eating the insides of Homarus americanus leaves me glad that there are hamburgers on an alternate menu. Something new for supper! We are reheating a pastry known locally as a “handpie”, and I am going to assume that it is good. Else, why have businesses that specialize in them, or why carry them in the frozen food section of the nearby market.

Our dog-neighbour with the spooky eyes has joined our pack for the night. He came early, silently, and made himself at home without incident. Later, a family member dropped off the huge electrical hand control (he wears the equivalent of those ankle bracelets favoured by convicts, except around his neck); I don’t need to use it, because we don’t let him run away to see the world. I feel good that we are seen as a refuge for a tame creature. Next on the list, the wilds from outside.

Does it really matter if your food looks like some imagined monster from a bad horror film? Not really, if the taste is suitable. I’m referring, obliquely, to shrimp. Specifically, the ones found in my local market.

How self-sufficient am I? Well, I’m making bread before bed. A quick translation: I filled the bread machine, and if my timing is accurate, I’ll have things cleaned and stowed before sleeping. It’s not that I prefer my robot to food from the market. More that I’m unwilling to walk that far for some additional carbohydrates.
