Could have thrown caution to the wind

Had an invitation to go shopping this afternoon, in the musical supply store in the city. I could have thrown caution to the wind, spend like a profligate amateur; I didn’t. My adult moment, shining. Please, may I have a raincheck?

The discerning scavenger

With a few extra minutes in hand, and clement weather, I decided to see what a harvested potato field might offer the discerning scavenger. Truth be told, not much. I hesitated to dig, so my attention was drawn to the few spuds left sitting on top of the rows, and everything I saw was  small and bruised. I guess I will continue to rely on regular markets.

I am not the only one

A quiet supper. The dog is convinced that my roast beef and cheese sandwich really belongs to him, and has goe off to sulk in a corner. Imagine how excited he would be if I now prepared one just for him. Not going to; he doesn’t share kibble so there are limits.

Discrete wishes

According to the calendar, this is the moment where I discretely wish my family and friends best wishes. More precisely, “Happy Thanksgiving”. OK, I’m up with that (or is it up for that?) How about OK, and then add the disclaimer that “we’re Canadian, eh” to explain the variance in date with the media behemoth to our south.

Efficiency in the malls

Turns out there going shopping in the city can be very successful, particularly when one has already lived there for decades. No problem to go quickly from one item to another on the list, even when it requires a different merchant for each instance. Today, we got things done.

Down time, inside

Today qualified as down time. Inside time. Time spent trying to convince two dogs that not every noise required a round of barking, and that because one barked, the other didn’t need to echo every single syllable. I failed.

With undefined game rules

Is there something worse than playing a game where the rules are changed in mid-match. Think of Monopoly, when the banker decides how the money part works on a whim. Or a soccer game, where the goal posts are in flux. How about government?

But how did he know?

My local mechanic doesn’t see the world with the same view as me. Today, while showing off our “new rig”, he noted a) the extra battery b) that was not connected and that c) required a 10mm wrench to complete the connection. Heck, I hadn’t even popped the hood latch, despite a whole summer of opportunity.

But was it lodestar or loadstar?

Into September; we’ve still checking off the restaurants on our short list. This evening, a trip over to the harbour in Covehead, for some fresh fish. At least, I assume it was fresh. After the batter is applied and you get a bath in a deep fryer, anything is possible. I especially appreciated that the gates of the Park are now open (as they should be, all the time). Hard to believe that the government considers that as a money maker.

Raise the grade on their table

Had to get up, last night. Window closure. We had rain, and with the dry summer I notice such things. Of course, with the gentle beat on the windows, I did get back to sleep. All things are good.
