In awe of the long distance swimmer

Please, take a moment and giggle. Another funny woman is no more. Phyllis Diller, from my childhood… and yes, I think she’d want you to giggle.

A true flash and bang kind of show

The next time you watch fireworks, and wish that the show had lasted a little bit longer, shed a tear for the folks in San Diego. Due to a miscue, the eighteen minute spectacle was condensed… to a tidy but bright eighteen seconds. Or if you wish to have the auditory version – Poof!

My view of the Hilltop celebrations

I have to go with what I see here. After watching the Canada Day celebrations (afternoon version) from the Hill, I want to mention that our current G-G is a hands-on kind of guy. You know, out in front, shaking hands, saying hello to the “commoners”. Our current prime minister… not so much. Although, for the record, his suit jacket has been buttoned AND verified.

Solid hitting

CBC reminded me  (and I’m passing it along) that today marks the 25th anniversary of Canada love-hate affair with the loonie. My kids have never known the satisfaction of earning that first foldaway dollar bill; their life involves pockets that should be double lined. On second thought, no need; given the short resting time of a typical metallic seabird in a youthful lifestyle.

Circles on the calendar, for some

Guess the networks have decided that a hockey game is too much competition. As a sign of submission, there are some really bad movies on right now.

When you can’t send the kids to their rooms without dessert

When you have thousands of protesters, you can’t act like a parent who has had enough. The threat that you will be sent to your room without dessert isn’t enough. Let’s look at some of the odd reactions we are getting, here in Quebec.

The dog and new friends

Going to bed at a “later than usual” time seems to disturb my normal sleep pattern, leading to insomnia. Unfortunately, going to bed at an “earlier than usual” time has exactly the same effect. I’m doomed to a life than misses prime time.

No bad jobs. Now you know.

Happened to come across some photos of lobsters with extra claws. Think of a bug, crossed with a Swiss army knife. I’ll leave you to find your own images; I’m now wondering how to avoid the nightmares. On to other, happier things.

Real people in imaginary places

I’d like to draw your attention to something. On TV, there are more real people than before. Especially in the commercials.

Syndication breeds familiarity and contempt

Syndication: the feature of network television that I love to hate.

Let’s face it; good comedy bears being watched more than once. It’s the “more than” which needs precision, and as soon as a program gets thrown into the schedule as a hole-filler, all control goes out the window. A case in point, for me, is The Big Bang Theory. I love the show. But now that the spot between 7 and 8 pm. is good for two or more episodes a day, I’m starting to get familiar with things. Too familiar.
