The dog and new friends

posted in ham radio, media |

Going to bed at a “later than usual” time seems to disturb my normal sleep pattern, leading to insomnia. Unfortunately, going to bed at an “earlier than usual” time has exactly the same effect. I’m doomed to a life than misses prime time.

Came home to find son #3 busily scrubbing cupboard surfaces. Is this some new phase? The odour of certain cleaning products is intoxicating, in a bad sense. If the trend continues, I’ll have to loan him some SCUBA gear. Should be good exercise for his back muscles…

Now that the dog has toured the neighbourhood, he seems to have a pack of new friends. The pack drags their humans along, which leads to a whole new paradigm. Dog praise. Yes, that white patch under his tail is showy.

The regular season of my favourite TV shows is over. Hiatus. No more Glee, or Big Bang Theory, or Republic of Doyle for the next few months. Will there be equivalent fare offered, or has cable TV just morphed into a state of “worse than usual”. Thankfully, there are books to take the place, and I can hum as a partial soundtrack.

I’ve determined the best use of those two packages of assorted resistors I purchased on Saturday. With careful pairing, and a combination of series and parallel connections, the whole thing adds us to 52 ohms. A dummy load, for those in the know. Capable of absorbing between five and seven watts of energy. Just what I need for QRP.  Science, applied.
