An aggravation

The risk with data mining is that “they” might notice me. I logged into my satellite provider’s website this afternoon, in part to check that our recent payment had been registered. And, while there, I decided to check on what it could cost me if I wanted to add a channel or two.

Recalling Blackpool

As long as my ISP doesn’t apply a data cap, I’ll be fine. We have slow access here; it never gets above 3.1 MBps. We make do. Once in a while, I have to squeeze the tube a bit.

Unforeseen leak

I have an aversion to high places. Although I’ve never been to a true mountain summit, I believe that there are other things to do. Who cares how far I would be able to see. In fact, I learned when I was still young enough to bounce that even a rooftop can be disconcerting when viewed from too close.

No cranking achieved

I’ve cleared the deck of snow cover, again. That forecast announcing rain later this evening was inspiring; fluffy snow is a nuisance, wet snow is a heavy load. Now I’ll sleep without the fear of an impending collapse.

Rescue the Deere

Snowflakes are heavy. Oh sure, in small quantities, no big deal. But, let them gather and before you know it, things fall apart. Rooftops, for example. Or decks. I didn’t want the latter on my conscience, so after a hearty dose of good coffee, I headed out with my preferred shovel.

Less than foolproof technology

Finally! An opportunity to get some exercise while wielding a large shovel! That wasn’t exactly the first thought that came up, but when the new snow level is over the ankles, a modest effort is required.

A forced break from coffee

At a risk of paraphrasing someone famous, today is a day that will live on in infamy. This morning, for no good reason, our treasured coffee machine stopped. Completely. Oh, sure, I can get bursts of steam, but the necessary feature, which pours heated water over ground beans… done.

Behind the Black Mirror

Now that the essentials of the gear required to make my work area have been unboxed, it’s time to improve things. In keeping with the “no need to put out the best china plates” model, I’ve swapped the UR22 against the UR44 as my sound interface for day-to-day. Had to download some drivers (it’s a Mac, after all), but the first impressions are satisfactory. I’m watching back episodes of Black Mirror. For someone who has had years of US sitcoms to entertain, this counts as really strange content. I’ll keep watching.

Antenna remount

My replacement MIDI cables arrived this afternoon, via the dog’s preferred courier service. When I mentioned to the driver that this was a second effort by Amazon, he pointed out that delivery is far from infallible. Hence the corporate logo: “oops!”

Take your father to work

In part due to a lack of opportunity, I never had that perfect communion of spirit that comes about with the “take your kid to work”. My sons attended school; why bother tagging along with Dad?
