Recalling Blackpool

posted in ham radio, technology |

As long as my ISP doesn’t apply a data cap, I’ll be fine. We have slow access here; it never gets above 3.1 MBps. We make do. Once in a while, I have to squeeze the tube a bit.

Right now, my ship data receiver is offline. I did the usual reset tests, and contacted their technical support. The suggestion, that I try to download a new image file for the computer, is reasonable. And large. Somewhere close to 8 GB. I’m on my second attempt, after a slight power bump. Hate to think what that would do to the “meter”, back when we lived with the controlling rules of another ISP.

This evening, I gave myself over to pure fantasy, with a Tim Burton movie. The title is long; I’ll go for an abbreviated (acronymic) version for the sake of my tale. MPHFPC is actually well done; my imagination doesn’t wander down those trails. Kept me in place right until the final (long) credits. And reminded me of a time/place from my youth.

There was a movie, dealing with the early days of rock and roll. I’m going to have to find the title, just because, but it had some mods and rockers on the long pier in Blackpool. I knew the candy, and the tower was very familiar. Again, I wonder if the whole resort thing is still there – yes, probably. People need fun in their lives. And towers. Kind of a seaside version of the Eiffel construction. Must go now; lots of history to research.
