Less than foolproof technology
Finally! An opportunity to get some exercise while wielding a large shovel! That wasn’t exactly the first thought that came up, but when the new snow level is over the ankles, a modest effort is required.
Yes, it snowed, for real. Still going strong, hours later. Powdery, so nothing to get on the ‘net and brag over, but we are now officially into the next season. Our breakfast trip was, by moments, breathtaking, as we moved from zero visibility to shots of open water off to the left. The tuque and gloves will now be required for most moments in the car.
The new “jump drive” that I purchased earlier this week has already required a reformatting. Not exactly fallible. If I limit the use to (easily reproducible) transfers from one iDevice to another, it should work out. I’ve taken the time to pull the packaging out of the recup sack, in case I’m required to demand a refund/replacement. Guess I’d better find the receipt.
I spend more time on the phone with the Bell-sat people. Finally, they’ve agreed to send a real, live technician, early next week. The $75 fee will be waived, given that we’ve done everything reasonable in the troubleshooting game. Personally, I’m looking forward to learning just how they figure out the flaw in their system. Standard technical curiosity. Maybe they’ll realign the dish while I’m watching (last time around, the outside work was handled without any opportunity to watch a true professional at work). Other than that, I’m going to have to skip the curling tourney for another weekend.
