Rescue the Deere
Snowflakes are heavy. Oh sure, in small quantities, no big deal. But, let them gather and before you know it, things fall apart. Rooftops, for example. Or decks. I didn’t want the latter on my conscience, so after a hearty dose of good coffee, I headed out with my preferred shovel.
And, as things often go, found myself busy for a couple of hours. Not so much the deck; I had to rescue a deer along the way. A J-Deere, specifically. One had taken refuge beneath the deck, and I had to clear a pathway to the nearest road. And then, stand by until the beast had found a new, better shelter (in the garage). Another part of that “ready of winter” business.
I’m glad that I didn’t fall prey to advertising, and pretend that my Deere could have been drafted into snow “moving”. Too light in the rear end, and too difficult to start in cold weather.
Anyhow, back to the deck (which still needed my attention). Once the majority of the snow cover had been thrown clear (to make room for the next, incoming delivery), I also needed to move the BBQ indoors, so that it could also be moved to the garage until better sunbathing weather.
The satellite guy showed up, on schedule, and he fixed the problem. Turns out that our dish was no longer a parabola, and he replaced it with only a comment about never having seen that happen before. Wait around, friend, as we live in a windy part of the world. I know that the damage likely took place in the dark, when the wind gusts topped 71 kpmh (a record). Now we’re back in Boomer range, and he even programmed the main remote. Bonus! I’ve also mailed off the old receiver, as required.
