New specs and a replacement drive case

This will be a mundane post, to reflect a mundane day. Fasten your seatbelt, though. Just in case.

My eyeglasses still need two lenses, even if one is there as a windscreen. I noticed that a certain state of dizziness accompanied me throughout the day, and when I arrived at the optical shop… I was happy. My new pair of glasses were ready, at the time the lady had promised. Good stuff. As well, my day gained a bit of flash, when the delivery truck showed up at work (at the appointed time). Suddenly, clocks made sense. Enough detail.

A waiver and you see

Every once in a while, I get one of those Eureka moments. Nothing to do with my tent. Tonight, I’m being called by the barre. Or to the barre. I’ll have to work that out as I go along.

A grand for a grand tour

Never get overconfident about having the daily finances under control. Never! Unless, of course, you are one of those with too much money and friends in high places. But for the common guy, that bottle of water probably contains vinegar.

Sleep deprivation as a study method

Catch me on the tail end of a long sleepness night, followed by a long sleepless day. Laugh at my nonchalance. I won’t care.

Live from the treadmill

Weekends are predictable. Wake early. Fetch the loaner dog. Spend the day opening and closing the front door. At a certain point, while in need of distraction, go for groceries. Prepare (mentally) for another week at work. Sleep. Come next weekend, rinse and repeat.

What I can (and can’t) see

Made a change in my routine this morning, and went off to visit my favourite team of ophtalo specialists. I’ve been so involved with them for the past few years that I don’t even know the relevant term in English, so let’s use “eyes” if it helps. Anyhow, my vision is less than pristine. I’m not cut out to be a great scout, or an intrepid hunter. Instead, I wander from place to place, content not to bump my nose too often.

Old school cough remedies

Fifteen years ago, the world froze. Not here, but down in the Montreal area, time halted (and they still haven’t recovered, I suspect). Ice, everywhere. It could happen again…

Put both arms in the air (like you just don’t care)

I now own an internal DVD burner for a laptop. After spending the requisite two hours over a stove (it’s a long story), I have determined that this is not the burner for my laptop.  Not a big deal, really. Through disassembly, I determined why my original burner was acting unpredictably. The original drive had an extra plastic piece inside that was jamming up the works.  If ever I own another laptop that needs a replacement drive, I’m ready.

Think of it as a quest

Think of it as a quest. When trying to find something put in place by a government agency, the final destination must (it’s the law) be hidden from the hunter.

Keeping an eye on time

It’s time. Forget all that business about digital, and accurate to within two ticks of something’s tail. I want to go retro. I want to wind my clock every few days; if I let my  duty slide, time will end. There. That should be enough to keep anyone on task.
