Am I too old to puzzle?

How I miss my youthful vision! I’m speaking in the mechanical, rather than the philosophical mode. That puzzle that I purchased at a really good price last afternoon (I didn’t realize how good a price, until I received back a lot more change than expected); it couldn’t be left to gather dust.

Pennies still count

I’ve followed this evening’s local news with an episode of Gerry Dee, followed by an episode of Sheldon. Found humour all the way. What has my life become?

Not upgraded at this time

Spent some time in the hospital this morning. Now, no panic required; this was a scheduled visit. Along with treating the sick, the building is also a good place to store expensive medical toys. In my case, a gadget called an Optical coherence tomography scanner, which emits odd noises, has an attractive light show and provides colour prints from inside my eyeballs. Pretty neat stuff. Today’s visit was simply to provide a baseline for my new specialist.

A pen that does not write

Another of the funny folk left the building this weekend, with the passing of Gene Wilder. I always had the feeling that, as he played a role, he hoped the rest of us realized he was just playing.

Stones of Agony

Funny how the plans for a day can change completely, due to a tiny pebble. A stone, if you will. The sort that form in our internals and then cause grief trying to get out.

Spool cord as springs

I’ve learned that the spool of plastic cord which fuels our weed-whacker is closely related to every clock mainspring I’ve ever liberated. Seriously. Had to rewind the stuff this evening, and my start-over counter is officially off the rails. Of course, with a freshly wound spool, I was then given the job of “finishing” the trim outside. Hint: when the wind dies, and the grass gets disturbed, prepare to donate small portions of blood to the local flying demons.

The doctor will see you, now

Today, I was reminded to call the provincial registry for those of us without a family physician. Called, left my number on the answering machine, went back to my routine. When the phone rang, several hours later, I was prepared to spell my name and the other usual tra-la-la; imagine my surprise, on giving my name, to learn that I had just been added to the list for the new doctor (arriving next month). Hurrah!

In and out

This evening, I’m reassured about the quality of medical care locally. We arrived at the hospital this morning, right on schedule.  That describes the rest of the day, as well.

Big eyed

I’m waiting, impatiently, for sundown. Early this afternoon I had a scheduled visit to the ophthalmologist (Hurrah!). One small side-effect though; my pupils have been about double-diameter for the last six hours. Really throws the concept of depth perception out of whack, and the light is streaming in to my poor retinas.

Our wildlife refuge

Our personal wildlfe refuge is getting crowded. Four hares, in a row. Five squirrels, ready to “tell me off” when I interfere with the feasting. Dozens of grackles, who flock together; move in their direction and they find reason to check out the neighbour’s (pale imitation) feast. We sprinkle sunflower seeds, everywhere. If ever they start to take root, our lawn will be a very different place.
