The doctor will see you, now

posted in health |

Today, I was reminded to call the provincial registry for those of us without a family physician. Called, left my number on the answering machine, went back to my routine. When the phone rang, several hours later, I was prepared to spell my name and the other usual tra-la-la; imagine my surprise, on giving my name, to learn that I had just been added to the list for the new doctor (arriving next month). Hurrah!

I’ve been without a physician for the better part of a decade. Done my best to keep healthy, and dodged the occasional administrative bullet: “You need a doctor to sign that request for an operation”. “Can you do it?” “Yes”  Problem solved. From here on in, my risk of ending up in one of those long, dangerous emergency clinics might have just ended. Again: Hurrah!

In Ontario, police have killed an alleged terrorist who was busy blowing himself up (what?). Turns out that our spycatchers knew nothing about the case, and the RCMP had received a tip from the FBI. Which begs the question: Where does the US border actually stop? Are we being watched despite the different flag? I’m enough of a tinfoil hat guy to believe yes…

Scientists have announced that the Greenland shark may live as long as a half-millenium, with four centuries being “average”. We can stop searching for the fountain of longetivity. Go north, and stay warm. I guess.

The federal government payroll system is still broken. I would hate to work in that IT shop.
