This evening, I stepped away from the table. In administrative terms, at least. I have had a minor role to play in a local community group. I learned, I laughed, I saw that my own contributions were heading into unseen territory, literally. Those blank pages that others could read, meant that I am, for the future, going to have to adjust my take on life. This was the first official detail.

My need for standby power is not a secret. If I have to sit in the dark, it will be by choice, not by necessity. Geny is out by the corner of the house, assuring that a power outage should not endure for more than a few seconds (hurricane excluded).

Those of us who are of a certain age will remember the family with their own bus. A rock band, with Mom at the wheel. Enough seats for each to have their own bench. A bit like my days in high school, where our bus was rarely full. It was not a luxury ride, but we didn’t spend much time on board. And the mechanical fitness of the bus was never in doubt, given that the company had their own maintenance depot.

This afternoon, we embarked on an adventure.
After careful analysis of your needs, we decided that the Internet service offered by Hell was an excess cost. An insult to our intelligence but that is just an impression. We have had a week with satellite, and paying much money for pennies in bandwidth no longer stirred my heart. Just my wallet. And with that decided, we began the long discussion to keep our landline and remove our Internet feed. The provider reacts like a wounded serpent, when reducing money is a part of the game.

It might have been due to the onset of winter. After our first real hurricane came through, back in the last part of September, my weather station went offline when the sensors were removed by a combination of wind and gravity. And some damage to the railing around the deck.
